“WOW!!!!!” is the first thought that comes to mind about this event. The Mini Single Mingle speed dating event was an amazing ice breaker for the single disciples at the World Discipleship Summit in San Antonio. It was filled with loud volumes of laughter, questions, and conversation from brothers and sisters around the world unified with the goal of building new relationships.
The vision of rows, rows, and rows of disciples leaning in to hear each other be honest about themselves and trusting each other with their personal thoughts was a beautiful sight!
This event was hosted by Atlanta Single Mingle, a group of disciples in the Atlanta, Georgia area that noticed a relationship void in the singles ministry and were inspired to fill it with fellowship. Our vision is to unify all singles throughout God’s kingdom by planning activities, such as this one that deepen relationships, explore creativity, encourage openness to possibilities, and to face heart fears head on. The signature activity at our events is speed dating, we allow the participants an allotted amount of time to ask questions about each other with the sole purpose to get to know each other better on a personal level. The activity is coupled with other exciting events during a weekend to promote fellowship and encourage future communication after the event has ended.
These activities have inspired a renewed unity throughout our family of churches for the singles and friendships that would have otherwise not been explored. The excitement of these events has not only been contained to the Atlanta, Georgia area, but has served participants throughout the United States. This journey has been amazing; God has blessed not only the events, but the hearts of many disciples through them.
When we found out that there was going to be over 3,500 singles in attendance at the Summit, our hearts leaped for joy at the possibility to serve our brothers and sisters. The Lord blessed this event with 1200 emails and Facebook responses to secure a spot for the speed dating event. We had 300 participants for this event that walked away encouraged and refreshed, because of their generous hearts, God was definitely glorified. We are currently making preparations for events in Greenville, SC in October 2012, Atlanta, GA in March 2013, and Jacksonville, FL in May 2013.
Proverbs 11:25(NIV) “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” The Atlanta Single Mingle Committee walked away seeing our great God at work in the Singles Ministries across our fellowship of churches bridging unity in friendships. One participant writes “Thank you so much for coordinating tonight’s speed dating. I had a blast. Thank you for your hearts to serve.”
Another participant writes “Thanks brothers and sisters behind this great event. I believe this event was according to God’s will. I saw for myself, the need to service my sisters more in terms of dating.” The encouragement is still pouring and we would love to hear from you. We look forward to the next conference in 2020 and for any another opportunities to see what our Almighty Lord is going to do!
