William McDowell wrote in his song that the purpose of “Giving Myself Away” is so that God can “use me”
It is what he did with his Son when he saw the hold that sin had on us. Jesus gave himself away so that we could break the shackles of sin in our lives. This was at no cost to us, Jesus paid the price.
God does not expect any great feat from us; all he wants is to be able to use us to bring others to him. He fully equipped us to do so. He even tells us what to say through his word.
In the words of Luke as found in the ‘Message” translation:
“…Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.” Luke 6:38.
Let us all gather together at the end of the year and experience the fun and satisfaction of giving ourselves away as we shed our inhibitions and open our hearts and minds to in depth self evaluation, in depth sharing , deep dreaming.
