Instead of a sea-side trip, these young Romanians enjoyed a memorable time in God’s creation at high altitudes! “And you will sing as on the night … your hearts will rejoice as when people go up …to the mountain of the LORD,to the Rock of Israel.” Isaiah 30:29

| Every year children had been used to have over the summer a holiday trip.
The most common desire was for them to go to the seaside. This year instead I came up with a different suggestion, to go up in the mountains – in an exotic place called Vatra Dornei, a place full of green and high pins, roads through the woods.
They were not that enthusiastic in the beginning, knowing that they will not have the chance to swim or anything connected with the water. In this trip, we had along Mugur and Loredana who recently returned from the U.S. One of the things which I had in mind in every trip we had with these children was to make sure that they will have enough to eat, which in this case particularly we had plenty. The children played soccer, all of them. It was so fun that Mariana was in the team all the time. We did hiking, walks into the woods and enjoyed the beautiful landscape. They picked rasberrys and wild strawberrys. They had fresh water from mountain springs. The destination of the hike was a sheepfold, where the children had a grilled meal. They had enjoyed maize porridge boiled in whey along with a special kind of cheese. We have spent some time there and then we got back. During this trip we had the chance to celebrate Nicu’s birthday. We sang Happy Birthday right on the soccer field, ate cake and the children gave him presents. At the end of this trip, some children were very disappointed that was finished. Some did cry because of that amazing time spent together and some really did not want to go back home anymore. I am very excited that this trip went good for them and they had a very good time together. On top of that, they had the chance to spend a very healthy week in a natural environment with no pollution around.
They also had the chance to see the beauty of their country and its traditions, to meet simple and honest people who showed them what hospitality means and so they recharged their spirit of hope for the future in their rough life. |
