As with many births of handicapped children in Afghanistan Ahmad Siar was born and abandoned by his parents when he was a young child. Police found him lying in a field outside of Kabul. He was born with hydrocephalus (water on the brain). After being taken to a hospital, a kind doctor placed a shunt that allowed him to live for several more years. He is now 11 years old and has spent the last several years at one of the state run orphanages.
We first met Ahmad Siar at the Aloudeen orphanage in 2006 while delivering donated supplies. The rest of his story is in our latest newsletter.
