Our trip to Chile was awesome! More than 30 students took part in the South Cone Campus Conference, held in Santiago: 8 brothers and sisters from Bolivia, 1 from Paraguay, 9 from Brazil and some 15 students from Chile.
During the seminar, we had lots of lessons from John Oakes (Evidences of God and Science, Church History, Daniel Prophet to the Nations and a devo on personal Bible study) and one lesson from John Hoyt (who leads the campus students in Santiago), who spoke on how God wants to be known in the whole world.
After a few days of evangelism, in which we Brazilians all strove to communicate in Spanish (our mother tongue is Portuguese), the campus hall was full to hear John Oakes speak on Evidences of God and Science, and 20 students asked to study the Bible afterwards!
In his lesson, John Hoyt preached that it’s imperative that we rise up as leaders in our churches so that Jesus’ dream to spread the gospel in all parts of the world remains alive in our generation.
One of the things that struck a chord with me during the conference is that there are a lot of people who still dream to be missionaries. I myself have just recently graduated and moved to Brasilia (Brazil’s capital) with a dream to raise the campus ministry here and be trained in order to plant missions in other cities. Before leaving, there were times that I, like Elijah, thought I was alone (1 Kings 19:10-18), but during my stay in Chile I came to the happy conclusion I was wrong! There is one sister in Santiago, for example, that has just recently quit her job in order to move to one sister church in Chile to help build it up. She had no arrangements for jobs there, and prayed that she would land one after two weeks of hunting. And God was gracious: after only one week, she was already employed.
God is the author and leader of the missions, therefore we need to always look to Him, “for nothing is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37).
