San Diego Launches Mission Center of HOPE

Poverty in San Diego County rose last year to its highest level this decade, fresh evidence of the financial toll the county’s prolonged recession and heavy job losses are taking on the region’s neediest households.

From 2007 to 2008, we’ve lost 10,000 jobs. This year, we’re on pace to lose more than 40,000, so you’ve got to expect that will translate into a skyrocketing rate of those in poverty.

To help answer this call, HOPE worldwide is expanding a new chapter in San Diego, collaborating with our existing work, The Mission Center of HOPE worldwide.

The impact of disasters both natural and economic is now being experienced by many in the San Diego area where help is needed immediately. With a volunteer base of more than 1,000 volunteers The Mission Center of HOPE worldwide will oversee a variety community programs. Chapter Director, Robert Carrillo says, “We believe in the power of the volunteer.” Our new building will serve as our HOPE worldwide headquarters and distribution center of relief goods and where life-enhancing counseling services will be conducted.

• Marriage, family and addiction recovery services
• Wellness services
• Youth Volunteer Corp
• Food pantry program
• Orphanage assistance
• Housing for the destitute

Future programs include:

• Youth sports mentoring for disadvantaged homes
• College admissions assistance
