As we
begin the year 2010, this scripture has been fulfilled in our very
campus ministry. The year is one that Campus ministry started with
great expectations having set our smart goals in order to “Let God use
US”
God
has allowed us to start the year with Bible Talks happening in 6
tertiary institutions, every week. The bible Talks have been very
encouraging especially through recent baptisms (such as Levi and
Ibrahim of University of Nairobi) at the very end of last year and
Pamela at the beginning of this year (Kenya Polytechnic).
In
order to get formal recognition in institutions, and thus proceed with
our bible talks, the campus ministry founded a club called “Campus
Beacon” which is led by disciples in various institutions. The goal of
the club is to reach out to the students as we help others in their
challenges. Most institutions have warmly welcomed the club and allowed
us to operate in their premises.
Like
our brothers in the first Century, God has enabled us to feel the joy
that comes with putting scriptures into practice. The year began with
lots and lots of fellowships – without mentioning the Sunday
fellowships after service and weekly dinners at bible talk levels. We
have experienced extra ordinary fellowships e.g. during Campus
Challenge Camp, a mini camp at Rowallan camping site for one night and
one day. The goal was to develop character of disciples through
challenging activities. God glorified himself in this because of the
joy, fun and bonding produced by the challenges.
Our
fellowships have also focused on serving the community. This includes
our hospital visits to the national spinal injury hospital where we go
every first week of the month.
We
also have e-soccer programme where we play with special children who
suffer from ADP, ADDH, Autism and Down syndrome. The e-sports programs
aim at helping them to achieve their full potential while at the same
time helping us to reach out to the guardians.
The above activities not only enables us to fulfill the call for true religion (James 1:27) but has built in us incredible gratitude to God for what he has already given us.
In
order to run the above activities a lot of finances are required. Yet
the Campus ministry is made up of students who are in humble
circumstances. In order to overcome that, we chose to begin by focusing
on our giving to God. We hold fund raising every month to help in
clearing our missions contribution. We have also initiated activities
to raise money such as the just launched “Campus Challenge Camp DVD”.
The DVD is not only inspiring but also helpful in raising money for
other activities. Other programmes for raising money are in progress
and God willing we will be a financially independent ministry.
Our
prayer life has been growing tremendously; this includes daily prayer
meetings, all night prayer meetings which are held in various
institutions and prayer partners. In this year we are hopeful that God
will use us to save students in entire tertiary institutions in
Nairobi, Kenya. To God be the Glory, Amen!
