Their lives are not easy. They are not treated as equal to the men even to this day, yet they display tremendous courage and stamina. Sarojni is one such woman. She lives in a modest home in Mumbai.
She raised several children, including three daughters who are now leaders in the Indian churches. She herself was baptized in 1993. Her husband to this day has not become a disciple and her home life is very challenging.
Sarojni does not enjoy the material comforts many of us do; she was not blessed with much education. She has to struggle in a city which is hot, overcrowded, dirty, and dangerous. One of her daughters says her mother’s biggest quality is her perseverance. Sarojni never gives up. She is amazingly resilient.
She is always joyful, giving, and committed to the church. Over the years she has reached out to over a dozen people who have become disciples. Her own daughters all became strong Christians.
Sarojni is now sixty two years old. In India that is a long life. Last year she helped two more of her friends to find Jesus. One evening she was sitting in the community area near her house (as older people are prone to do in this part of the world) and spending time with some other ladies from church. Another mature woman overheard their conversation and joined in. Mrs Leela Nair had been recently widowed and looking to revive her faith. She started attending Bible Talk and became a disciple.
Around the same time Sarojni got back in touch with an old friend she had not spoken to in twenty years. During that time her friend, Mrs Lingeshwari, had suffered a stroke and was bedridden. She had faced many struggles and her life was very challenging. Again Sarojni reached out to her and Mrs Lingeshwari was baptized in December.
Monica, her oldest daughter, says, “She has changed my world and I am proud to see her changing the world of many more as she lives her life as a disciple at the age of sixty two!”
