Every six months the New Delhi church holds a women’s workshop to meet the needs of the women in the congregation.. This past Sunday, the theme of our workshop was “Victorious Women”. Joyce D’Sa was the main speaker. She had just returned from helping the mission team plant the church in Manipur, her birth place.
She spoke with conviction on the life of Deborah, about trust in God, faith, and courage. Then the sisters were able to choose between five different classes on such topics as purity, conviction, vision, humility, and forgiveness.
These workshops are so encouraging for the women of the church. Life in India is tough for women. The heat, the long distances to travel on local buses, the physical hard work required for domestic tasks, all take their toll on the women. Added to that the fact that women are not treated as equal to the men, years of abuse before they become disciples, and sometimes even after, persecution, lack of money… The sisters really need the encouragement!
One of the new disciples was so happy to be able to leave her child at home with her husband for the first time in her married life! She couldn’t tear herself away from the fellowship!
Many visitors attend these events. The New Delhi church is doing well. The church of 600 has seen 67 people become disciples so far this year.
The Christians in Delhi are grateful, happy, and committed at a time when the country is getting ready to celebrate Diwali, the biggest Hindu festival of the year! People everywhere are lighting lamps to welcome the goddess of wealth. The Delhi disciples meanwhile are learning how to be more sacrificial and devoted to God.
