If you feed them they will come. My husband Alan and I have a saying: “If our friends come to dinner, they will become Christians.” Now, it doesn’t always happen that way. Regardless, they do hear the Good News of Jesus.
How can I repay the Lord for all his goodness to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord. Psalm 116:12-13
Our Bible Talk began with four couples. Within a week, three additional disciples had joined our group. A year and a half later we fifteen disciples call our small group their “home”. God had blessed us with 3 baptisms thusfar in 2011. Three are studying to be restored. Several others are studying the Word to become disciples.
Some have asked us our “secret”. Simply put, we love the lost and we love each other. God takes care of the rest. As a group, we have had our share of trials, health issues, loss of jobs, etc…, but Friday nights are for encouraging our souls. We invite others so that they can be encouraged as well.
My favorite way to meet people is to ask them if they’re interested in the Bible in any way. If so, inviting them to hang out with us on Friday nights is easy. On the other hand, Alan likes to share about the two of us meeting at church and how awesome marriage can be when both love God. It doesn’t matter how we share as long as it’s comfortable and heart-felt. For us, that goal has taken practice. For us, simply starting conversations with people seems to be the hardest part. Once we do that, bringing up the topics of God and the Bible seems to come naturally. Not everyone is going to be an evangelistic warrior, but everyone can help others know God. Our goal is that everyone in our group is involved in some way with each conversion or restoration.
God is truly amazing! He wants everyone to be saved and he wants us to share in the joy of helping them to get there. To God be the Glory.
