Ekaterinburg, Russia Gives Generously to Typhoon Relief

This month, the Eastern coast of the Philippines collapsed because of Super Typhoon Haiyan. Many disciples of Christ around the world continue to pray for this country and all victims. At the moment it is known that already more than 4000 people killed and many remain missing. Many thousands of people lost their homes and lost their relatives. HOPE worldwide circulated a request for assistance to victims, including the brothers and sisters of our churches.

The Church of Christ in Ekaterinburg decided to respond to this plea for help. We were inspired by the example of the sacrifice of our churches around the world, as well as the attitude to the poor and needy which we see in the Bible. We offered to all members of our church to donate a day’s wages in favor of the victims. We believe that our donation, although small, will be a good support for those who need it at the moment. We also believe that God will not leave those in need who seek to support their neighbor in greater need, even if this is neighbor is many thousands of miles away.

Although many people have their own unmet needs, those can be neglected for some time, when it is more urgent to help others. We see that heart in our Lord and in the Bible.

“Now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace of God, sent to the churches in Macedonia. Although it was a severe trial, their immense jubilation was evident in their infinite generosity, despite their extreme need. I am a witness that they gave what they could, and even beyond their capabilities. They continually asked us with all perseverance that mercy was given to them to serve the people of God.” — 2 Corinthians 8:1-4

We are grateful for the response of the disciples of Christ, that we had our donation – many had tears in their eyes, many people are grateful that they have the opportunity to help other countries, to other people, which they most likely will never see, but to take part perhaps, in the most difficult time of their lives.
