The Greater Houston Church of Christ is excited to announce the appointment of two new evangelists and women’s ministry leaders, Barret and Rachel O’Connell, and Jason and Carmen Lugo.
“In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction…But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry” — 2 Timothy 4:1-2, 5.
Barrett and Rachel both became Christians in the teen ministry. Barrett committed to God in Dallas as a sophomore in high school and Rachel, in Oklahoma City as a Jr. high student. They met in college while on a mission team to Amarillo, Texas. In 2001, they both moved to Houston for college and were married in 2004. After serving as volunteers in the teen ministry for several years they entered the full-time ministry in 2008. They have two children, Kaylie and Bryce.
Jason became a Christian in 2000 in the Greater Houston Church. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Honors Bachelor degree in History and is a veteran of the United States Army. A year later he introduced Carmen to the church and Carmen became a Christian in 2001. They were married the same year and now have one energetic son, Dante and a precious daughter, Ambrist. In 2002, they began serving the Teen Ministry in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 2006, Jason and Carmen went into the full-time ministry in the DFW church. There they served for six years in the Preteen, Youth and Family and Married ministries as well as organized HOPE worldwide mission trips. In 2012, they took a leap of faith, and moved to Houston to serve on the ministry staff here.
