There are nearly 350,000 college students in Baltimore spread across 55 accredited institutions. There were 35 campus students in the Baltimore campus ministry. The math is simple, and the ministry is all on board to leave their mark on their respective schools. This past week nearly 10,000 college students were handed invitations to attend The Greater Baltimore Church of Christ‘s first campus led Sunday service of the year.
The conception of this number was met with the full spectrum of college responses. Excitement, hesitation, fear, panic and anticipation filled every corner of the room as well as the minds of the students inside.
Thirteen nights later our focus shifted from number of invitations to finalizing rides for the most amount of college visitors ever in our attendance. We had done it. God brought nearly 100 visitors to a truly inspiring service, but more incredible than the quantitative outcome was the seed of growing conviction and culture that had been down in the hearts and expectations of the campus ministry.
Everyone needs forgiveness, and God has more than enough to go around. The song service, the vulnerable messages and moving testimonies brought the congregation to a place of better understanding God’s amazing grace and the response He desires us to have.
Diamond Johnson was added to the kingdom at the end of the service, the fifth baptism of the semester and the second girl baptized in Towson University in the same time span. God is moving, and we are humbled and honored to be part of his movement.
