For Seth Mitchell, a member of HOPE worldwide’s National Youth Advisory Council (NYAC) and intern for the New York Metro Chapter, it started with one simple idea – to create understanding and a partnership between two distinctly different communities through creative collaboration. Seth pitched his idea of co-writing a play with the children at the Camden Street Elementary School in Newark, New Jersey to the Randolph High School Principal. Seth’s enthusiasm and his idea took wings and it was quickly embraced by the teachers and students of both schools.
David Browne, Ed.D., Randolph Superintendent of Schools stated, “After more than thirty years in public education, I have rarely seen anything with more power to transform two places than the process that created a simple play entitled Ramden Dreams. There were few audience members who were not moved to tears at the sight of about 50 kids from Newark and Randolph who grew to love each other by celebrating their accomplishments on their school stages. I am very grateful to say that I was one of those audience members.”
