Greetings to our brothers and sisters,
First, let me express our thanks and appreciation for the money sent to us through HOPE worldwide. We are purchasing and distributing food items and raising awareness about Ebola prevention. We are thankful for everyone who sacrificed to help us in this time of great need; we also pray that God will remember them.
At the present time, confirmed Ebola cases are being registered daily throughout the country. The only positive news is that, according to the Sierra Leone Government Information Ministry, 225 people have been discharged from the Ebola Treatment Centers. The government is trying to contain the situation, which has really gotten out of hand. They have been appealing to the international community for help, closing private hospitals, training more health workers, bringing in additional equipment, including personal protective gear (so many health workers have been refusing to go to work because they feel unsafe), and constructing new holding and treatment centers in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and Medicins Sans Frontieres (MSF) workers.
Ebola screening is taking place all around the country. Some banks are even using infrared thermometers to check people’s temperatures. If they are found to have a fever, they will be sent for further testing. The Ebola scare is so great that many are refusing to visit health facilities, even if they are sick, because they are afraid to be told they have Ebola.
At every church service, we remind everyone to take precautionary measures such as washing of hands frequently and avoiding physical contact. We are grateful to God that no church members have been infected.
Please pray that God will deliver Sierra Leone from the Ebola epidemic that has crumbled our economy and is making our lives difficult. Schools are closed and social gatherings are not allowed – but we are grateful that the church is still able to meet.
