Our God continues to bless the Asheville Church in North Carolina more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:14-21). The most recent blessing is the recognition of our treasured friend Alex Allred as evangelist.
In the summer 2011 a band of about 20 disciples of Jesus came together to rise up and build (Nehemiah 2:17-18). A few were already there in Asheville: Chris and Bonnie Chazotz and Tom and Andrea Hummert among others. Several others such as James and Danielle Hatfield, Xam and Maui Vang, and Brian and Amanda Law moved by faith to Asheville. When the 2011 fall semester began, several students, among them Alec Nunez, Hallie Gillespie, A.J. Iiames, Emily Shapiro, and Alex Chu, came by conviction to reach, teach, love and walk at UNC-Asheville, AB Tech and Western Carolina. From that mustard seed of about 20, God has produced much lasting fruit of the Spirit, repentance and confession of His name, and now over 60 followers work together with our Lord in Asheville.
On Sunday morning, September 14, the church came together with joy. John Basilio, an evangelist in the Triangle Church of Christ and a missionary from Bolivia, preached from 2 Timothy 4:1-5 and encouraged Alex to “do the work of an evangelist.” John reminded us all that being an evangelist is a calling and not a career, and that an evangelist should be an evangelist whether he is ‘paid’ by the church or not. The elders at Triangle, along with the churches from across North Carolina, are pleased to recognize the work Alex and his wonderful wife Micheal are already doing. We charged them to ‘walk with God, love God’s Word, love God’s people while keeping a balance as husband, wife and parents to their loving children, Drew and Ellie.” We then presented Alex with a sword to represent the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17).
Alex shared about driving the moving van to Asheville praying, “Lord, we hope this works out,” and how he often asks, “Father, what do I do now.” Our God is certainly faithful in Asheville, NC.
