Wayne, PA – HOPE worldwide. Volunteers in 104 sites across the nation have honored the legacy of the September 11 victims and those who have risen in service over the last thirteen years. More than 3700 volunteers from forty two HOPE worldwide Chapters across the US logged over 10,000 hours of service in remembrance ceremonies and projects during the month of September. Some of the volunteers have participated in partnership with the American Red Cross in “Protecting Our Neighbors” events, which educate residents about fire safety tips, the value of working smoke alarms and a fire escape plan as well as natural disaster preparedness.
Volunteers distributed fire prevention or disaster preparedness information to over 12,000 households across the country. Volunteers also honored first responders and military personnel, conducted school supply drives and neighborhood and park beautification projects, hosted a re-dedication of a community center, served at a food pantry, helped to build homes for needy families and provided homeless individuals with hot meals, warm clothing and personal items. Many service events included special reflection and remembrance activities, and six additional service projects are planned over the next few weeks.
