On the weekend of August 22-24, 2014 the Tokyo Church of Christ celebrated its 25th anniversary. Over 400 disciples gathered from all over Japan and the world for this event. Our main speakers were Frank and Erica Kim from Denver, who powerfully led the church for 15 years, along with Rob and Pam Skinner from Tucson, who served in the ministry in Japan for 10 years. Steve Shoff from Boston, who was part of the original mission team in the late 80’s and led the church for a year in 2003, also joined us. It was a heart-warming and inspirational reunion for all of us.
The theme of our weekend was “Count the Stars.” Frank and Rob preached powerful lessons from the life of Abraham calling us to dream again of great miracles. One of the highlights of the weekend was the appointments of two new evangelists, Katsufumi Tondokoro and Yudai Takemoto, and the appointment of our new women’s ministry leader, Ayako Takemoto. The church in Tokyo is now approaching 300 members. We were reminded of George and Irene, founders of the Tokyo church many decades before, and their dream of evangelizing all of Japan.
