Three Wise Men

Some 2000 years ago, three men came from a distant country in search of the Savior because they wanted to worship him.

Matt 2:1-2
2:1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.”

The journey was likely long and certainly dangerous and revealed a heart within these men that highly valued God and was willing to seek Him. Two millennium later 3 different men went in search of this same Jesus and like the original wise men, they also found their messiah. In mid to late December Jose Rivera, Brian Dolan, and Rodney Kelly were baptized into Christ; here are their stories:

David Joutras, a disciple in the Greater Boston Region, was outside one day playing with his children. Dave is a tenaciously evangelistic brother. That day he met his neighbor Jose Rivera who was enjoying the day with his children. Dave struck up a conversation and invited Jose to an upcoming house church that was going to be at the Joutras home in Hyde Park. Since that house church Jose and his two sons have attended most of the functions hosted by the Owens’ Hyde Park d-group. Jose is passionate, open and humble and since that first house church has had a heart that was eager to hear the word and respond. From the first day Jose’s life was an open book to the men in the d-group who studied the Bible with him. On Sunday December 2, 2007 Jose was baptized at the Flaherty Community Swimming Pool in Roslindale.

Brian Dolan was met by his friend Jay Rogers on the Emmanuel College Baseball team. He is Brian’s story in Jay’s words: “I met Brian Dolan when I was a freshman and he tried out for the Baseball team, one thing about Brian was that he was undoubtedly the hardest worker out there. He put 100% into everything and that is the same way he attacked the Bible. He really epitomized the scripture that calls us to search for god with ALL of our hearts. Brian and I became close friends and one thing I know is that he respects, but more importantly obeys the word of God. He wanted to study every day that we could. And he was always thanking us for spending time teaching him, again and again he would thank us and it was so humbling to see someone who was so grateful. We studied probably 3 times a week and often late into the night. His final study went 7 hours straight!!! It was so amazing to see his willingness to be taught.” Brian Dolan was baptized at Campus devotional on December 7, 2007.

Lastly there is Rodney Kelly. Rodney Kelly has had a long journey to Jesus. Being brought up around the church in both Virginia as well as Boston by his mother and father, and aunt and uncle Sandra and Carl Singletary; when he enter Boston College a few years ago, Rodney went the way of the world. After the humbling process of seeing what the world truly has to offer, Rodney began seeking God. Pursuing the brotherhood, confronting his past, and courageously embracing Jesus, Rodney studied the bible with Jim Garten, Danny MacDougall, Kevin Miller as well as with long time friend James Dunn, and was baptized on December 9, 2007 by James.

These three men have truly made the wise decision to follow Jesus and embrace his discipleship and are a example of the power of God to change lives when men seek him with all their hearts!
