“and is well known for her good deeds, such as bringing up children, showing hospitality, washing the feet of the saints, helping those in trouble and devoting herself to all kinds of good deeds.” I Timothy 5:10
This story is about a 93 year old woman, named Ume. Ume was baptized when she was 83 years old in the Tokyo church. Now she is a 10 year old disciple.
In her family, 4 generations are living at her house and 3 of them are all Christian. Her daughter and her granddaughter are also disciples and her two great-granddaughters come to church every Sunday.Ume wants to come to church, but her body is very old and she can not walk by herself, and hardly hear the service.
Ume had a dream when she was young to be a doctor. This dream started when she had experienced the Big War. During the war, many people were very poor and there was no food, no medical, no peace…nothing.
Ume saw many people dying because of no food, no money for medical care, so she wished to become a doctor and cure the people for free. But Ume needed to work to support her family, and she worked very hard. Yet her dream did not change.
God reached out to her in 1998 and she made Jesus Lord! After Ume became a Christian, she knew Cambodia hospital is helping the poor people in free, she decided to raise some money for the hospital. She made knitted goods (hats or socks) and sold them at the Hope bazaar for the hospital.
A few years ago, she fell down and broke her arm. Unfortunately, her left hand did not move any more. Despite the setback, Ume never gave up and tried to move her finger again with knitting. She keeps making knitted goods for the Hospital.It is amazing story!! I am so moved and touched. Ume is doing her best for the needy, even she is very old. She does not complain but is grateful.
