Dear God,
Thank you for hearing my prayers and my baptism on May 8th, 1989. I remember the incredible joy, excitement and gratitude I felt knowing that the wall of sin had been removed.
My family thought I had joined a cult and tried to talk some sense into me. They did not understand the incredible gift that you had given me, your Son.
For many years, I enjoyed the fellowship and had a deep faith and a strong desire to understand you better. I loved meeting people and telling them about you. Along the way I realized one of the gifts you put into my heart was serving and helping others. I witnessed many people repent and call you Lord and Savior. I saw the miracle of their new life you gave them.
Looking back I see where I started to shut down. There were issues in my life I tried to deal with, but they went unresolved. There were issues that I just swept under the carpet and did not confront. I was slowly losing my connection with you, my faith was taking hits. I allowed myself to become more and more isolated. Satan had my number. I allowed him to devour my remaining faith and left the church in early 2008.
Without having my life centered around you, my heart filled with sins of commission and omission. I felt a high degree of frustration. Anger reared its ugly head quite easily. I was lustful and debaucherous. I would have too much to drink often. Mainly I knew the good I should be doing and wasn’t doing it. I was not being the husband you wanted me to be for my wife.
I am sorry God for turning my back on you. I allowed Satan to get a foothold and drag me away. You warned me of this many times when reading James. I know my leaving hurt you, especially after all we had experienced together.
Your Word says that when you forgive my sin, it is as if it never happened. And when I repented and turned back to you, the angels in heaven rejoiced. I can’t fathom the full power of your love. When I try, my eyes tear and my heart fills with gratitude.
Thank you for the brothers who helped me see you more clearly. Their gentle love, support and encouragement helped me to better understand your abounding grace and love.
Love, your Son,
Scott
