“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.” 2 Co 1:3-4
Friday, December 14 brought unimaginable grief and sorrow to our community as we witnessed events that have shocked us, distressed us and in some ways have sobered us. There is a spiritual battle going on and none of our communities are out of range.
Newtown is within the ministry area of the Southern Connecticut Church of Christ and in fact, the Sandy Hook Elementary school is a mere 15 miles from where I live. Fortunately there were no disciples directly impacted from the shootings although we have friends and coworkers who were. I know of at least one disciple who will be attending a funeral on Wednesday the 18th for a friend.
Thank you for your prayers and please keep on praying. This has profoundly impacted Southern Connecticut as it has the entire world. Events like this remind us all that the enemy cares not the year, the month, the day or the hour he strikes. He is blind to age, gender and race, and he is relentless in his pursuits.
Please pray for a season of healing in our community.
